Kathy Curran is a certified Iyengar instructor. Her yoga practice began over 50 years ago.
Kathy studied many different styles of yoga before being introduced to the Iyengar method and was immediately convinced that this would be the form that would be the most beneficial to her personally and also the method that she wanted to share in her teaching. She recognized that this method could be practiced lifelong regardless of illness or injury.
Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, a yoga master, who did more than anyone ever has in perfecting the science of hatha yoga and in increasing its therapeutic applications.
Kathy uses The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as well as the teachings of her spiritual teacher Pema Chodron to inspire her practice and teaching. The yoga philosophy of learning how to relax while preforming the poses has also been incredibly helpful and has taught her how to bring more ease into all aspects of her life.
She began traveling to India in 1994 to study directly with the Iyengars and has returned many times over the years. She has also been greatly inspired by her primary teacher in the United States, Patricia Walden.
Kathy’s teaching approach is compassionate and lighthearted and she especially enjoys witnessing the positive changes that students experience from the practice.
Kathy has been teaching in Durango since 1987.
